If I am honest, I must admit, there are times I am so
homesick for heaven, that I just want to go “home”. The problem with this
mindset is, even though heaven is where I ultimately want to be, taking that stance
of resigning myself means one of the following:
(1)
I have a better concept of when my work on earth
is finished than God.
(2)
I’m confident that no one else will respond to the
Gospel of Grace and therefore assume that God is done offering Salvation to the
lost.
(3)
From the eye of prophecy, I somehow can interpret
God’s intent and time-table better than He can.
One can easily see that the previous assumptions are pretentious,
prideful, and self-centered, however when we say to ourselves, “what’s taking
so long for the ‘catching away?’ (rapture), why’s God taking so long?”, we
assume of those 3 positions.
God’s prolonged age of Grace should be a great comfort to
us, it should be an absolute witness of His great Love, the love we are
supposed to be reflecting.
[Luke 19: 12& 13] Jesus relates this parable concerning
His return: “12
He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself
a kingdom, and to return. 13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them
ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.”
Christ left us here when He ascended into heaven, each with
a portion of “all we needed” (The indwelling Holy Spirit). He promised to
return in the same manner he left, in the air.
“Occupy till I come”
does not mean to sit around and worry, pine, fret, or feel sorry for ourselves.
Neither does it license us to resign ourselves as “citizens of the world”, and
live as though this is all there is.
Occupy till I come, does mean to Live and work each day, but
do so mindful that Christ’s appearing is eminent (could happen anytime), and we
must remain “in the Way” and be vigilant in reaching the lost with the message
of Salvation in Christ. To “occupy” is to inhabit a place, with a purpose, a
goal in mind, and our goal should be to be about the Lord’s work in our daily
lives.
God has His hand in how we provide for our families, but
that is our provision; our vocation is to “be His witnesses” where He has
placed us at any given time. That’s what it means to “occupy till He comes”.
Have a Blessed Day
